Ceremony and precepts

July 7, 2020

“Thus on this full moon night, we offer the merit of the Bodhisattva way through every world system to the unborn nature of all being.”

These are the closing words at a full moon ceremony, a renewal of vows to practice the precepts.

The words, the call and response, that is part of this ceremony —are one level of teaching, appreciating the dharma in Buddhist philosophy. Sure, i get that.

But the teaching I am more familiar with is “through the pores” (Mel Weitsman’s words). Blood, marrow, bones, and pores.
